Nose in a Book Reviews: Spotlight Tour – Beyond Jealousy by Kit Rocha

She’s been looking for the perfect man. She found two.

When Rachel Riley sacrificed a life in Eden to protect the O’Kanes, she earned her place in the powerful Sector Four gang. But the former crime princess is tired of being everyone’s sweet little sister . It’s time for her to get wild, to embrace her fantasies as only an O’Kane can—with a delicious exiled soldier and the gang’s wickedly sinful tattoo artist.
A saint…
Lorenzo Cruz is a warrior, taught by his commanding officers in Eden that involvement equals distraction. Emotion is a liability, and desire a sin.  In Sector Four, he finds decadence, shameless sex—and his own dark urges. No battle strategy prepared him for how Rachel makes his heart race…or the way his rival for her affections sets his blood on fire.
…and a sinner.
Ace Santana has a dirty reputation and a mind to match, especially where his new lovers are concerned.  He’s eager to help Cruz embrace his dominant side, and to explore the lines between pleasure and pain with Rachel. But corrupting them quickly becomes an obsession, a need he can’t deny—and a love he never imagined.
Three hearts on the line means a hundred ways their ménage a trois could go wrong. After all, even O’Kanes do forever two-by-two.  One of them could be the missing piece that makes them all whole…or a temporary diversion destined for a broken heart.

Thanks to Kit Rocha for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I must confess, I have been waiting for the Rachel/Ace book since this series started. Of course this can lead to overanticpating a book and being disappointed. Well… I was not disappointed. In fact after the last book I realized it wouldn’t be a story just about the long suffering pair, but a triad with the too-good-to-be-true Cruz.

“You got your saint Rae. Just… promise me you need a sinner too.”

Whenever Kit Rocha drops a new book based in Sector Four, my heart skips a beat because I know I’m going to get not only one steamy, DIRTY story, but one with a well thought out plot too. Just like her previous stories in the Beyond series, I couldn’t put this one down.

Beyond Jealousy revolves around Ace, the sector’s bad boy tattoo artist, Rachel, the good girl bartender and Cruz, a new addition to Sector four after defecting away from the Eden military. Ace and Rachel have a history of push and pull, but deep down, they know they belong to each other. It isn’t until Cruz steps in and begins dating Rachel that becomes the catalyst for this trio to finally figure things out.

I have a hard time believing most menage stories, because someone will ultimately be left out. This was the first trio in a very long time that was truly believable. I adored how pliable Rachel was to both Ace’s bad boy side and Cruz’s dominant, yet soft side. The sex was steamy and definitely didn’t disappoint no matter if you were rooting for MF / MMF / MM time. Kit Rocha was able to deliver it all. Of course I might have liked a little more Ace/Cruz time, but I am not complaining.

The other side of this story is the emotional connection between not only Ace, Rachel and Cruz, but everyone in the sector. The gang is still trying to determine who’s been counterfeiting their booze, and there are a few dangerous missions that happen though the book and it really draws you into the story and the connections they all have.

My only real concern was the self loathing from Ace and how blind he was about how loved he was by not only Rachel and Cruz, but the sector as a whole. After a while I wanted him to snap out of it. At the end he finally received the wakeup call he needed.

The little twist at the end left me craving the next book in this series.

I highly recommend this entire series. If you haven’t already, go check it out!

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.

The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.
Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they’re crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she’ll have to open herself to a world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission. Kobo

She refuses to be owned.
Alexa Parrino escaped a life of servitude and survived danger on the streets to become one of the most trusted, influential people in Sector Four, where the O’Kanes rule with a hedonistic but iron fist. Lex has been at the top for years, and there’s almost nothing she wouldn’t do for the gang…and for its leader. Lie, steal, kill—but she bows to no one, not even Dallas O’Kane.
He’ll settle for nothing less.
Dallas fought long and hard to carve a slice of order out of the chaos of the sectors. Dangers both large and small threaten his people, but it’s nothing he can’t handle. His liquor business is flourishing, and new opportunities fuel his ambition. Lex could help him expand his empire, something he wants almost as much as he wants her. And no one says no to the king of Sector Four.
Falling into bed is easy, but their sexual games are anything but casual. Attraction quickly turns to obsession, and their careful dance of heady dominance and sweet submission uncovers a need so deep, so strong, it could crush them both. Kobo

He has only one rule: he won’t share her.

Nose in a Book Reviews – Telling Tales by Charlotte Stein

Telling Tales

Allie has held a brightly burning torch for Wade since college. They were part of a writing group together, and everything about those days with him and their friends Kitty and Cameron fills her with longing. When their former Professor leaves them his rambling mansion in his will, it’s a chance for them to reunite. But there’s more than friendship bubbling beneath the surface.

Thanks to NetGalley for the Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, this book was basically an excuse to write really dirty porn, but Stein worked it into the plot decently well.

The story revolves around Ally, who’s been pining away for her friend Wade ever since college. They’ve gone their separate ways, like most do after college, but she still harbors a major unrequited crush. Ally’s past suddenly slams into her future when one of her professors from college dies and leaves Ally and a group of her friends a sprawling mansion in his will. The place holds a lot of memories for Ally. It was the place she and her three friends used to spend hours upon hours, sharing their creative writing pieces to each other beside the fireplace. The will stipulates that the four friends must fix the place up for a month before they can do anything else with the place, like sell it.

Ally is forced to face her past when she shows up to fulfill her duty specified by the professor. Only she didn’t anticipate Wade finally reciprocating her affections, and instead of creative writing pieces, their out-loud reading sessions turn towards their darkest erotic fantasies.

I found Ally’s POV extremely rambly for the first part of the book, something that I find true in a lot of Stein’s books. However, once she gets laid, her mind quiets down a lot and I enjoyed the story a lot more. The characterizations were a little weak, with the exception of Cameron. I found his background and story compelling and I wanted to know more about him.

There is a lot of sex going on in this book. No, not just sex, but threesomes and foursomes as well. If you want to read filled with hot, steamy sex with plot woven around it, this is a good book for you.

A quick read about two old friends dealing with tragedy.

Levi & Sarah have been friends since they were kids but haven’t spoken in over a year. They’ve both been trying to do their best to live day by day since the tragic event that ripped the two friends apart. They both end up working at a small bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere Arizona. At first they both try to avoid and pester the other one to insanity. Eventually they finally begin to actually speak to one another and make progress in coming to terms with their grief.

There were times I really wanted to smack these two for being so stupid and unwilling to open up and actually speak to one another, but it didn’t detract from the story too much. The pair finally figure things out and all’s well that end’s well.

A quick read and one that did keep me turning pages up until the end.
